Owned by the Manila Medical Services, Inc., MDH is the health care affiliate of Metrobank Foundation, Inc., the corporate social responsibility arm of the Metrobank Group. MDH is located at #667 United Nations Avenue, Ermita, Manila .
On February 27, 1979, Metrobank Foundation became the major stockholder of MMSI.
Driven by our determination to make healthcare accessible to the marginalized and underserved, it is our ardent commitment to provide service guided by ethical standards and improve the health care delivery system with pronounced social impact. This established MDH as a vital partner of the Department of Health, local government units and other like-minded institutions in empowering the communities and the public we serve to sustain health and wellness.
Through its Corporate Social Responsibility Office,
we also provide affordable and accessible healthcare for the underserved and financially-challenged patients.
Health care is provided by more than 600 active and courtesy members of the MDH medical and dental staff, through fully functional clinical departments: Internal Medicine, Surgery, Pediatrics, ENT, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Ophthalmology, Orthopedics, Anesthesia, Physical Rehabilitation Medicine, Radiology, Nuclear Medicine, Family Medicine, Dental Medicine, and Pathology. Professional services in the different medical and surgical specialties are also available. All the physicians who practice at MDH are Fellows, Diplomates or both, of their respective medical and surgical specialties. Majority of them have undergone training overseas, and many are also affiliated with UP-Philippine General Hospital (PGH) and similar academic institutions. Service to the community and the underprivileged is an integral part of the MDH Mission.
Manila Doctors Hospital started operations with four medical departments: Internal Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pediatrics, and Surgery housed in a single 5-storey building at the historical Ermita, Manila. In the same year, the department of Otorhinolaryngology (Ear, Nose, Throat / Head and Neck Surgery) was added to the existing four medical departments.
The Outpatient Services Department was established to primarily provide services for economically-challenged patients who would like to access quality healthcare. In 1979, the Department of Ophthalmology was added to the roster of medical departments providing services in the hospital. Likewise, the Metrobank Foundation, Inc. became the major stockholder of Manila Doctors on February 27 of the same year.
To serve more patients and provide more comfortable spaces for ancillary and other support services, a 12-storey Norberto Ty Medical Tower (NTMT) was built in July 1989.
The Department of Family and Community Medicine became part of the medical departments catering to the patients of Manila Doctors. 2005 – Manila Doctors became the first hospital in Manila to be ISO 9001:2000 certified. It also continued to be accredited by the Department of Health and PhilHealth. The 5-storey Doña Salustiaña Medical Tower was inaugurated in December 2005 to house more physicians’ clinics and ancillary services.a
Opened its first satellite clinic at the 2nd floor of the Blue Wave Mall in Marikina City. In April of the same year, the PROHEALTH Center that provides services to promote wellness through clinical nutrition and management was inaugurated in the main hospital.
The hospital was named as Center of Excellence by PhilHealth and was also the first hospital in Asia to be accredited by the Accreditation Canada International (ACI).
Manila Doctors became the first hospital to declare and commit to a social vision. The social vision is a declaration of the hospital’s commitment in engaging and addressing health and development issues.
Manila Doctors initiated its biggest expansion with the ground breaking of its new 18-storey medical tower on December 18, 2013. The hospital also opened its fully electronic – Vision Center.
Manila Doctors joined the global community by being a reporting member of the United Nations Global Compact. The hospital also joined crucial international policy – centered conventions as per the invitation of the United Nations focusing on Sustainable Development Goals and Anti- Corruption.
The same year, the hospital became the first hospital in the Philippines and Southeast Asia to acquire the Gamma Camera with CT – Scan – the Symbia Intevo xSPECT system. This was also the year when the hospital was re-accredited by the Accreditation Canada International as a Gold level accredited institution.
Manila Doctors became the first hospital in Manila to be ISO 9001:2015 accredited by Anglo – Japanese American Registrars, Inc. 2016 also marked the formal opening of the Norberto Ty Medical Tower II that will allow the hospital to expand the hospital’s bed capacity from 300 to 500, and add new technological advanced services.
